The International Symposium on Combustion (ISoC) is a biennial conference on combustion sponsored by the Combustion Institute (CI). Priyabrat provided an oral presentation on “Modeling subgrid scale production rates on complex meshes using graph neural networks”, while Deepti and Nithin took part in poster presentation sessions for their works titled “Dynamics-Based detection of aromatic species and soot nucleation pathways using reactive molecular dynamics” and “A graph neural network based chemical mechanism reduction framework for combustion applications” respectively. Shiva and Surya presented their work in progress posters (WiPPs) on “Quantitative assessment of dynamics-based kinetic parameter extraction using ChemXDyn” and “Towards a low-precision solver for reacting flows”, respectively.

Various members of the cohort also took part in additional events at the symposium, such as the Early Career Research Mixer and the Women in Combustion Luncheon, which are pivotal in allowing fledgling researchers and academics to connect and network with others in their field. Members also took in Japanese culture to the fullest, visiting shrines, trying Japanese food, marveling fireworks, and having the occassional discussion outside the local convinience store.

FLAME lab students awarded IISc-Siemens Fellowships

N.
