The paper titled “An asynchronous discontinuous Galerkin method for massively parallel PDE solvers” co-authored by Shubham K. Goswami and Konduri Aditya, has been published in the journal Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. This paper presents an asynchronous discontinuous Galerkin method along with an extensive theoretical and numerical analysis.

FLAME Lab members and alumni reunited for a day of sports activities and amicable interactions, concluding with a celebratory dinner on August 17th, 2024.

Many congratulations to Shubham for successfully defending his doctoral thesis titled “A scalable asynchronous discontinuous Galerkin method for massively parallel flow simulations” on August 5th, 2024. He joined the FLAME Lab in August 2019 and was the first PhD student in the lab. His research was focused on the development of asynchronous numerical schemes and demonstrating their scalability at extreme scales.

Priyabrat was selected for the DST-SERB international travel support scheme for attending ASME TurboExpo 2024, held at London (UK). He presented the results of a collaborative study aimed at non-invasive identification of recirculation zones from experimental images of a trapped vortex combustor.

Our collaborative work with TU Delft, Netherlands on “Data-driven identification of precursors of flashback in a lean hydrogen reheat combustor” was published in the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute.

Raj’s collaborative work with ZHAW, Switzerland and SINTEF Norway got accepted for publication in the Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, titled “A reactor-network framework to model performance and emissions of a longitudinally-staged combustion system for carbon-free fuels.”

Our paper titled “A scale-similarity based workflow for the self-supervised reconstruction of small-scales in turbulence using deep learning,” has been accepted for publication as a journal article in Physics of Fluids. Co-authored by Priyabrat and Dr. Aditya, this paper presents a physics-guided, self-supervised methodology incorporating the scale-similarity hypothesis to reconstruct small scales in turbulent flow simulations. This work has been selected as an editor’s pick as well!

Congratulations to Shubham for winning the Best Poster Award at the CHTC conference (Topical Meeting on Computations of High-speed Turbulent and Complex Flows), which was held between June 28th and 29th, 2024, at IIT Hyderabad. Shubham, along with co-authors Vidyesh Dapse and Konduri Aditya, received the award for their work titled “A scalable asynchronous discontinuous Galerkin method for massively parallel flow simulations.”

N Surya from our lab has received the prestigious Reliance Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship for 2024. This scholarship provides up to INR 6 lakhs and supports outstanding students in various fields through financial aid and development opportunities. Congratulations to Raj for receiving Secured Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) international travel grant for attending 19th edition of the International Conference on Numerical Combustion, held in Kyoto, Japan.
